Best Items to Counter McGinnis

Buy for the threat you are facing. These are situational options, not a build to purchase in full. Tap an item for its breakdown.

Matchup Overview & Game Plan

Clear the turret setup from safe angles before trying to take the position. Save area damage for grouped turrets and preserve a vertical route around the wall. When her own gun prevents that clear, weapon defense can buy the space you need; it does not replace the job of removing the setup.

Monster Rounds and Alchemical Fire solve the summon problem directly; Knockdown and other hard control matter once she starts protecting key channels or escapes.

Laning Phase

  • Clear a turret nest from a safe angle before committing into its full damage.
  • Save an area ability for grouped turrets so one cooldown removes useful setup.
  • Use wall bounces or vertical movement around Spectral Wall when an escape route is available.
  • Monster Rounds improves clear; Cultist Sacrifice or Alchemical Fire offers a different answer to a developed turret position.

Most Common Problems vs McGinnis

Identify what is losing the exchange, then use the answer and timing below.

McGinnis turrets are taking over every objective area

Monster Rounds

What to do: Buy Monster Rounds early and upgrade to Cultist Sacrifice if the summon problem persists.

Why it helps: Both directly improve your ability to clear player-created NPCs, and Cultist Sacrifice can consume Mini Turrets.

She is channeling safely behind her setup

Knockdown

What to do: Keep hard control available for the channel.

Why it helps: An interrupt forces her to either invest in protection such as Indomitable or give up the high-value channel.

Her gun pressure is melting you while you clear turrets

Metal Skin

What to do: Activate Metal Skin during the commit.

Why it helps: Bullet immunity lets you survive the window where you are exposed while removing the structures that are actually controlling the space.

McGinnis turret nest is too expensive or slow to clear one turret at a time

Cultist Sacrifice

What to do: Upgrade into Cultist Sacrifice when summon control is deciding objectives.

Why it helps: It is a higher-commitment anti-summon answer that can remove Mini Turrets and turn entrenched turret setups into extra value instead of a permanent zone.

Grouped McGinnis turrets need an area-clear answer

Alchemical Fire

What to do: Use Alchemical Fire from a safe angle on grouped turrets.

Why it helps: Its area damage can clear several parts of the setup while denying the ground McGinnis wants to hold.

Gameplay Counterplay

  • Use wall bounces and vertical movement to clear Spectral Wall without spending every stamina charge.
  • Save an AoE or nuke for grouped turrets instead of using all of your wave-clear before she sets up the nest.
  • When turrets are freshly placed, do not overcommit into their protected setup—clear them from a safe angle first.

Mistakes to Avoid Against McGinnis

Committing into a fully built turret position

Clear what you can first. Otherwise you are paying for defensive items while leaving the source of the repeated pressure untouched.

Spending area damage before turrets are grouped

Save that clear for a useful cluster. Make the cooldown remove meaningful setup rather than a low-value target.

Threat / Fight Plan

Fire Rate Control

Slows down enemy weapon attack speed.

Useful answers: Rusted Barrel

Gun Defense

Helps survive bullet pressure through immunity, conditional defense, or a barrier.

Useful answers: Metal Skin

Interrupt & Cast Denial

Interrupts vulnerable channels or denies an important cast before it starts. Silence alone is not a universal channel interrupt.
