How to play Baba

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Weaken enemies and help your team win the next exchange. Use Threadsap to strengthen your shooting, and choose whether your team needs protection, silence, or extra damage from your brew.

Positioning

Play near your team’s close-range fighters, using cover to get a useful Threadsap angle. You need enemies within reach, but should not be the easiest target for several ranged guns. Keep a nearby ally and a route out when preparing a longer attack.

How to fight

  1. Open a shooting exchange with Threadsap when you can land it safely, then use the empowered bullets rather than treating it as a separate poke. Aim at reachable enemies instead of chasing a particular caster through their whole team.
  2. Watch Baba’s Brew and pause on the effect you want before the important moment. Use Granny Long Legs to reach or leave a useful position. Commit Feed The Birds when teammates can exploit it and nearby enemies cannot freely interrupt you.

When an enemy threatens you

Reposition towards allies with your movement and use a helpful brew effect. Avoid repeating bench melee attacks into a waiting parry, or trying to finish a long channel while everyone shoots you.

Baba game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls from cover and land Threadsap before a shooting exchange. Practise choosing a useful brew instead of casting without checking its effect.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Travel near allies and prepare the brew your next fight needs. Use empowered shooting without walking beyond the team’s protection.

Late game

~25+ min

Look for a supported Feed The Birds opportunity. Keep nearby interrupters in view and change position if enemies can freely shoot you.

Tips

Good to know

  • Later bread ticks deal the most damage — the first tick is only about 4% of the maximum, so channel patience pays off.
  • Brewing continues through crowd control, so the pot keeps cycling even while you're stunned.
  • Being stunned during Feed The Birds triggers the bird bombardment early instead of canceling it.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Starting a long attack while enemies can interrupt you.
  • Taking ranged gunfire or repeating parryable bench attacks.

If you’re struggling

Stay near allies and provide useful brew effects instead of diving to force damage.

One useful tip

Granny Long Legs changes your melee attacks; those attacks can be parried, so avoid repeating them blindly.

Matchups to watch

Heroes that change how you play Baba. Situational adjustments, not rankings.

PocketOpportunity · Teamfights
Watch for

Pocket needs a close spell-damage opening and defensive tools to leave.

Do this

Look for a safe Threadsap hit before trading; prepare silence for the approach rather than following the escape alone.

DynamoThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

Nearby group control threatens a long Feed The Birds commitment.

Do this

Keep track of Dynamo and channel only from a position where he cannot freely approach you.

VindictaThreat · Lane
Watch for

Long firing angles punish stepping forward for your setup.

Do this

Use cover to land Threadsap, then take a short shooting exchange instead of standing exposed beneath her angle.
