Best Items to Counter Drifter

Buy for the threat you are facing. These are situational options, not a build to purchase in full. Tap an item for its breakdown.

Matchup Overview & Game Plan

Travel with support and treat a mark as a reason to move toward your team. Once he commits a teleport, be ready for the light-melee follow-up. Cleanse addresses the mark and debuffs; weapon protection addresses the burst. Decide which of those jobs you need before spending your item budget.

Dispel Magic, Disarming Hex, Counterspell, and Metal Skin all attack a different part of the same pick pattern.

Laning Phase

  • Avoid isolated rotations when a teammate can travel with you.
  • Cleanse the removable mark before it becomes an easy teleport setup.
  • Watch for a light melee after the teleport and prepare a parry for that attack.
  • Keep an escape toward your team or guardian; weapon protection and cleansing solve different parts of his all-in.

Most Common Problems vs Drifter

Identify what is losing the exchange, then use the answer and timing below.

Stalker's Mark and other debuffs keep setting up his kills

Dispel Magic

What to do: Purge the mark as soon as the engage is committed.

Why it helps: Drifter relies heavily on debuff-driven pressure, and Dispel Magic removes the tracking/setup that lets him convert the all-in.

His gun damage is melting you during the isolated all-in

Disarming Hex

What to do: Disarm him when he commits to the duel.

Why it helps: Drifter is heavily weapon-dependent and loses most of his damage while he cannot fire.

His ultimate is about to land on you

Counterspell

What to do: Preemptively Counterspell the obvious ultimate timing.

Why it helps: The animation is readable enough to protect yourself before the burst and effects connect.

Drifter gun burst is too high even after you survive the mark

Metal Skin

What to do: Activate Metal Skin during the committed weapon burst.

Why it helps: It gives a temporary bullet-immunity window that can completely waste the part of Drifter's all-in that depends on sustained gun damage.

Gameplay Counterplay

  • Stay grouped. Drifter gets far more value when he can isolate a single target and turn the fight into a clean 1v1.
  • After he teleports onto you, be ready for the common light-melee follow-up and punish it with a parry.
  • If he marks you, rotate toward teammates or safety instead of continuing to farm alone and giving him a free target.

Mistakes to Avoid Against Drifter

Rotating farther away from teammates while marked

The matchup favors isolated targets. Move toward help so the follow-up becomes a team response rather than a solo escape attempt.

Expecting Metal Skin to remove the mark

Metal Skin is listed for weapon burst, not as a cleanse. If the debuff itself is the problem, consider Dispel Magic.
