How to play Sinclair

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Pressure enemies with controlled ranged attacks and use a copied ultimate that fits the fight. A reliable spell setup is more useful than a complicated imitation you cannot safely position for.

Positioning

Play behind or beside teammates with cover and a safe Spectral Assistant location. Keep track of where swapping with the Assistant will take you. Avoid placing it somewhere dangerous and then treating the swap as a guaranteed escape when enemies approach.

How to fight

  1. Use Vexing Bolt’s redirection to threaten an exposed target rather than repeatedly firing straight at someone who can easily dodge. The Assistant adds another attack angle, so think about where both attacks can matter while keeping your own position protected.
  2. Use Rabbit Hex when allies can take advantage of the control. For Audience Participation, choose an enemy ultimate you understand and can use from a realistic position. Consider the upcoming objective, who will protect you and what teammates can do during the copied effect.

When an enemy threatens you

Swap only if the Assistant’s position is safer than your current one, then return towards cover or allies. If both positions are threatened, stop forcing damage and preserve distance while waiting for a better setup.

Sinclair game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls and practise Bolt redirection with a safe Assistant position. Avoid treating a swap as safety if its destination is exposed.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Choose copied tools you understand for the next objective fight. Keep pressure from a covered angle without abandoning your escape setup.

Late game

~25+ min

Use control and a useful copied ultimate while allies can benefit. Prefer reliable positioning over attempting an unfamiliar combination inside the enemy group.

Tips

Good to know

  • Copied ultimates inherit YOUR upgrade tiers, not the enemy's — a T3 copy of a T1 ult can be stronger than theirs.
  • Slowing Hex blocks the assistant swap but not the summon — and the Vexing Bolt redirect doesn't break stealth.
  • You can copy an ultimate even if the enemy hasn't unlocked theirs yet — and an unused copy only costs the 85s default cooldown.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Losing track of your Assistant’s position.
  • Copying a complex ability without knowing how to use it safely.

If you’re struggling

Provide ranged damage and a simple useful copied tool rather than forcing an unfamiliar big play.

One useful tip

A copied ultimate is only useful if you know its range, timing and position requirements.

Matchups to watch

AbramsOpportunity · Lane
Watch for

A close fighter needs to cross space your ranged attacks can pressure.

Do this

Use Bolt from cover and keep a genuinely safe Assistant position; avoid standing beside an easy wall pin.

CalicoThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

An unexpected close burst can punish attention spent aiming or choosing a copied tool.

Do this

Keep nearby allies and a protected swap destination, and watch the side route before committing a long setup.

DynamoOpportunity · Teamfights
Watch for

His ultimate is a potential copied group-control tool, but requires the right position.

Do this

Copy only if you understand the follow-up and can use it with allies, rather than treating a strong ability as an automatic win.
