How to play Viscous

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Deny the enemy’s most dangerous attack and help teammates keep a useful position. Add damage and disruption, but make sure your saves and punches help the team rather than interrupting it.

Positioning

Stay beside or slightly behind allies where you can see who is being attacked. Keep cover available so you are not the easiest first target. For Puddle Punch, think about both the surface you use and where the target will move afterwards.

How to fight

  1. Use Splatter to threaten an approach or retreat route, then add gunfire when safe. The Cube can protect an ally during serious danger, but it temporarily stops them acting too. Save it for a meaningful commitment rather than cubing every teammate who takes a small hit.
  2. Puddle Punch can create an opening, defend a retreat or move a threat away; careless placement can also save an enemy from allied shots. Goo Ball can disrupt enemies already committed nearby, but avoid rolling so far away that you abandon the teammate who needs protection.

When an enemy threatens you

Use your defensive option and nearby allies to survive, then plan what happens after protection ends. Temporarily avoiding damage is not enough if enemies remain around the same exit with every attack ready.

Viscous game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls and use safe Splatter pressure. Preserve protection for a serious attack rather than stopping your partner’s actions for minor damage.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Stay near useful fights and check where your punches will move targets. Protect teammates without becoming an isolated easy target yourself.

Late game

~25+ min

Deny the enemy’s dangerous commitment, then help your ally survive the release. Use disruption that supports the fight rather than moving everyone unpredictably.

Tips

Good to know

  • Press jump to exit the Cube early and keep the speed buff.
  • The Cube doesn't interrupt channels — save channeling allies freely.
  • Self-Cube during Goo Ball preserves momentum; canceling reverses it.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Stopping a teammate’s useful attack with an unnecessary Cube.
  • Punching a target somewhere that helps the enemy.

If you’re struggling

Protect a productive teammate and control routes rather than trying to start every fight alone.

One useful tip

The Cube also stops an ally acting temporarily. Use it to prevent real danger, not every small hit.

HazeOpportunity · Teamfights
Watch for

A committed shooting window creates a clear dangerous moment for an ally.

Do this

Cube the seriously threatened teammate when it prevents meaningful damage, then help them reach safety after release.

AbramsThreat · Lane
Watch for

Predictable close punches and a wall catch can force an awkward defensive save.

Do this

Keep a route away from the wall angle and use displacement deliberately; do not remain close after the safe exchange ends.

McGinnisThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

A wall and prepared shooting position can make an uncontrolled roll or punch harmful.

Do this

Choose disruption that preserves allied access, rather than moving a target away from teammates trying to damage it.
