Best Items to Counter Vyper

Buy for the threat you are facing. These are situational options, not a build to purchase in full. Tap an item for its breakdown.

Matchup Overview & Game Plan

Keep distance when low enough for execute pressure and avoid a straight chase through the slide route. Make Vyper re-enter your range on your terms. Weapon protection answers sustained gun damage, while a cleanse answers venom; pick the problem that prevents you from surviving the exchange.

Return Fire, Metal Skin, and Disarming Hex punish the weapon damage; Dispel Magic removes venom/debuff pressure; and Indomitable is the safer answer to fast hard-control setups that are difficult to react to with Unstoppable.

Laning Phase

  • Keep distance when low health so the execute-style setup is harder to apply.
  • Avoid a straight chase through the slide route; make her re-enter your effective range.
  • Use cover and spacing instead of remaining in a close-range weapon trade you cannot sustain.
  • Dispel Magic addresses removable venom pressure; bullet immunity still needs a plan for existing debuffs and the next position.

Most Common Problems vs Vyper

Identify what is losing the exchange, then use the answer and timing below.

Her rapid-fire weapon pressure is melting you

Return Fire

What to do: Use Return Fire if you are already durable, or Metal Skin if survival is the only goal.

Why it helps: Vyper fires enough shots to punish herself heavily into Return Fire, while Metal Skin simply blanks the bullets.

Venom and other removable debuffs are stacking too high

Dispel Magic

What to do: Purge the poison/debuff pressure with Dispel Magic.

Why it helps: Removing the setup prevents the execute-style follow-up from starting with a fully stacked target.

Her fast hard-control setup is catching you before you can react

Indomitable

What to do: Use Indomitable for the automatic hard-control cleanse.

Why it helps: The stun can be too fast for consistent proactive Unstoppable timing, but Indomitable must be triggered by the control itself.

Vyper movement and momentum make her impossible to pin down

Knockdown

What to do: Use Knockdown to break the movement sequence and force a stationary punish window.

Why it helps: Even a short stun is valuable against a hero whose sustained damage depends on maintaining momentum and close-range angles.

Gameplay Counterplay

  • Keep your distance when low health; her execute-style pressure is much easier to avoid if she cannot comfortably apply the setup.
  • Long range also attacks one of her weapon weaknesses because the gun is less reliable when she cannot slide around you at close distance.
  • Do not chase through her movement pattern in a straight line—make her spend the mobility to re-enter your effective range.

Mistakes to Avoid Against Vyper

Following the slide in a straight chase

Make her return to your range. A predictable pursuit can extend her preferred exchange.

Treating venom and weapon damage as the same item problem

Dispel Magic is listed for venom, while Metal Skin or Disarming Hex answers gun pressure. Select the job you need rather than buying only for the hero name.
