How to play Vyper

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Keep close gun pressure on a reachable enemy while using movement to avoid becoming an easy target. Your speed should preserve a useful fight, not carry you blindly into several opponents.

Positioning

Play around a side of the fight with nearby allies and a slide route you understand. Stay close enough for useful gun damage without cutting yourself off from a retreat. Practise the terrain first: moving quickly is not helpful if the destination is exposed or blocked.

How to fight

  1. Use Slither-supported movement to maintain a favourable distance while shooting. Screwjab Dagger helps keep contact and adds pressure on the same target. Look for an enemy distracted by teammates rather than sliding directly into someone waiting with control that can stop your movement.
  2. Lethal Venom is more threatening against wounded targets, so connect ordinary damage before expecting a finish. Petrifying Bola changes damage timing: ordinary shots cannot hurt the petrified target, while Lethal Venom can. Coordinate that window instead of making teammates waste their attacks.

When an enemy threatens you

Move back towards allied help before enemy control lands. If slowed or knocked up, prioritise getting out of focus rather than assuming another slide will immediately restore a safe position.

Vyper game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls and practise safe slide routes before forcing close fights. Use short gun exchanges without moving into several ready enemies.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Maintain income, then approach a reachable target from the side with allies nearby. Avoid entering first into control that stops your movement.

Late game

~25+ min

Keep close shooting active while managing escape routes. Use venom and petrification deliberately so the team does not waste ordinary shots into protection.

Tips

Good to know

  • Lethal Venom ignores petrify's damage block — inject before you bola.
  • Her gun's recoil fires in an octagon; burst-fire to stay accurate.
  • Slither loses no speed sliding uphill — use slopes to escape.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Being slowed or knocked up while relying on movement.
  • Shooting into petrification instead of coordinating your damage.

If you’re struggling

Collect safe souls and attack after enemy control is occupied instead of sliding in first.

One useful tip

Ordinary shots cannot damage a petrified target; Lethal Venom is the important exception. Coordinate team damage around that protection.

Matchups to watch

Heroes that change how you play Vyper. Situational adjustments, not rankings.

KelvinThreat · Lane
Watch for

Maintained beam contact interferes with movement and a sustained gun exchange.

Do this

Break the sightline with cover and re-enter from another angle rather than trying to slide through his pressure indefinitely.

Mo & KrillThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

A close hold denies the movement your fighting plan depends on.

Do this

Wait for their attention to turn elsewhere and keep allied help nearby before entering close gun range.

Grey TalonOpportunity · Mid-game skirmishes
Watch for

A distracted ranged position may offer a covered route into useful gun distance.

Do this

Check traps and backup first, then keep a retreat route instead of sliding straight through the firing line.
