How to Counter CC-Heavy Teams in Deadlock

Separate preventing a catch from surviving its follow-up. Spread the engage, track the control chain, and keep the right response available before it lands.

Common threatsLashBebopThe DoormanDynamo

Identify the first catch and the damage that follows it. Use proactive protection for a planned commitment, a cleanse only for effects it can remove, or passive defense and ally saves when you cannot act in time.

Best counter items against heavy cc teams

Debuff Reducer
When to buy

Choose it when repeated debuffs reduce the time you can move, cast or fight.

Watch for

It is passive protection, not a cleanse. Check the exact effect rather than expecting every displacement to disappear.

Unstoppable
When to buy

Choose it when you can anticipate the control during an important cast or engage.

Watch for

Activate before the catch. It is not a rescue button you can assume will work after all actions are disabled.

Dispel Magic
When to buy

Choose it when a removable setup effect is causing the next lethal sequence.

Watch for

Use it only when you have an activation window and the effect is eligible; do not treat it as an answer to every ultimate.

Reactive Barrier
When to buy

Choose it when control connects and immediate follow-up damage is the reason you die.

Watch for

Use the resulting survival window to move or receive help. The item does not cancel the original control.

Rescue Beam
When to buy

Choose it when you can hold a safe angle and reach the caught teammate.

Watch for

Avoid sharing the same area catch. A save is useful only if the rescuer remains able to act.

Choose the item that answers the recurring threat and fits your hero. These are situational options, not a five-item shopping list.

Name the first catch

Know which spell starts the lethal sequence.

Choose the response

Prevent, remove, cushion or save.

Use the gap

Reposition when their key control is spent.

How to recognise this team style

Look for repeated fights where one stun, root, silence or displacement reliably leads to more control and focused damage. The decisive issue is losing your response window, not just facing many heroes with a disable.

Silence, stun, disarm and item denial are different problems. Read the effect that actually catches you, including whether it prevents the active item you intend to use.

Positioning and approach

Do not give one area spell access to your carry and the teammate responsible for saving them. Hold separate angles within useful range, and keep cover between you and a targeted catch.

Know the first enemy setup before starting an important cast. If your plan requires proactive immunity, activate it for that commitment; waiting until you are already disabled can remove the action window you needed.

Teamfight decisions

After an enemy misses or spends the first catch, move into a better angle while it is unavailable. Avoid returning to the same exposed spot and letting the next cycle begin on their terms.

Call the difference between surviving the control and removing it. A barrier may keep the victim alive, while an ally needs to interrupt the follow-up or finish an exposed attacker. If an ultimate cannot be interrupted in that state, switch to leaving the area or saving its target.

Heroes that can contribute to this style

Violet adds a completion stun through Still Life and silence and slow when enemies leave Abstract Landscape. Respect those different timings; do not assume one cleanse answers every part of the setup.

These are examples of the threat, not a fixed draft recipe. Builds and team decisions change the way these heroes contribute. For split-push especially, look at the map behaviour rather than treating the tag as a permanent hero role.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming every disable can be cleansed.
  • Holding proactive immunity until you are unable to activate it.
  • Letting the save hero get caught in the same area as the intended target.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best counter to crowd control in Deadlock?
There is no universal item answer. Identify whether you need prevention, an eligible cleanse, passive status resistance, protection from follow-up damage or an ally save.
Does Dispel Magic remove all crowd control?
No. This guide uses it for eligible removable non-ultimate debuffs, and only when you can activate it. Check the exact effect instead of assuming every catch or ultimate is removable.
When should you activate Unstoppable?
Before a predictable control window during a commitment you need to complete. Do not assume you can wait until a stun has already removed your ability to act.
