How to play Celeste

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Use movement and spell combinations to pressure enemies while making their return attacks awkward. You want useful spell angles and repeated damage opportunities, rather than hovering still above everyone’s gunfire.

Positioning

Play behind or beside your team’s close fighters, near cover you can return to. Use your air movement to change angles, not to remain permanently exposed. Get close enough for your spell setup without drifting so far ahead that nobody can protect you.

How to fight

  1. Use Light Eater to prepare a damage exchange, then aim Radiant Daggers where enemies are likely to move. A target retreating through a narrow route or occupied by an ally is easier to hit than someone freely dodging in open ground.
  2. Dazzling Trick helps protect a committed exchange, but do not spend it casually before an enemy rush. Look for grouped enemies for Shining Wonder and keep adding useful attacks from a safe angle. If enemies hide, change position rather than following them blindly around a corner.

When an enemy threatens you

Move towards cover and allied protection while using your defensive tools. Being mobile does not prevent an enemy from landing a burst when you pause in an exposed position.

Celeste game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls and practise Light Eater into useful spell damage from cover. Use movement to change your angle rather than remaining exposed overhead.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Move with allies towards useful fights and find a side angle for spell pressure. Keep Dazzling Trick available if enemies can rush you.

Late game

~25+ min

Pressure committed enemies and look for grouped targets for Shining Wonder. Keep moving between useful angles without separating from allied protection.

Tips

Good to know

  • Carny Life homes at a ~45° angle and even tracks soul orbs — fire near corpses to secure them.
  • Cast Radiant Daggers inside buildings: the beam hits every vertical layer in its radius.
  • T3 Dazzling Trick lets Shining Wonder bounce off your own barrier and resets its timer.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Floating where several enemies can shoot you.
  • Spending your protection before an enemy rushes you.

If you’re struggling

Use spell pressure near allies and preserve your barrier rather than forcing a close duel.

One useful tip

Your mobility helps you choose an angle; floating in full view still lets enemies shoot you.

AbramsOpportunity · Lane
Watch for

He needs close contact and a useful wall angle.

VindictaThreat · Lane
Watch for

Floating in the open gives her a clear ranged firing line.

Do this

Use cover and change angles instead of treating air movement as protection from her gun.

Mo & KrillThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

A direct approach and hold can punish committing beyond your allies.

Do this

Keep your protection and distance available; attack from beside your team rather than hovering alone over their position.
