How to play Paradox

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Catch an exposed enemy and swap them into a position your team can attack. Before making the play, account for where you will land as carefully as where the enemy will arrive.

Positioning

Play near allies with a useful view of the target. Your current position becomes the enemy’s destination during a swap, so do not begin from somewhere your team cannot reach. Keep cover or allied protection available at the far end whenever possible.

How to fight

  1. Use Pulse Grenade to pressure a route or an enemy occupied by your teammate. Charge Kinetic Carbine for a controlled shot rather than firing it without a clear target. Landing that setup makes a following Paradoxical Swap easier than trying to hit an enemy freely dodging.
  2. Time Wall can interrupt a useful enemy firing line or help control a route. Once a target is caught, help teammates damage them instead of looking immediately for a second elaborate play. Do not swap a durable enemy into vulnerable allies while placing yourself somewhere you cannot survive.

When an enemy threatens you

Use cover and your remaining disruption to get back towards allies. If enemies are waiting at your swap destination, keep using safer damage and setup until the position changes instead of forcing the exchange.

Paradox game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls and practise controlled Carbine shots from cover. Use grenade pressure without stepping into unnecessary danger to force a swap.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Move near allies who can attack a catch. Check where you will land and where the enemy will arrive before committing.

Late game

~25+ min

Catch a valuable exposed target only when the exchange helps your team. Keep using safer damage and disruption if the swap destination is defended.

Tips

Good to know

  • Kinetic Carbine scales only off weapon damage — spirit power does nothing for it. But spirit resist shred still boosts its damage, while bullet resist shred does not.
  • Time Wall stops ability and item projectiles too, and ally weapon-damage abilities gain the +30% bonus.
  • Swap triggers Indomitable and Cloak of Opportunity, cleansing it so nobody moves — check enemy items before committing.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Swapping yourself into a position you cannot survive.
  • Catching a target when teammates cannot attack it.

If you’re struggling

Use controlled catches from allied protection instead of swapping into the middle of the enemy team.

One useful tip

Your starting position matters as much as your aim: it becomes the enemy’s destination.

Watch for

An exposed firing position can become a useful swap target.

Do this

Set up Carbine from allied cover and check your destination; a caught sniper is not worth landing alone inside his team.

AbramsThreat · Teamfights
Watch for

Swapping a close fighter towards vulnerable allies may improve his access.

Do this

Choose a different target unless allies can control and damage him immediately, and check the position you will inherit.

PocketThreat · Lane
Watch for

Evasive tools can spoil a committed catch and leave you overextended.

Do this

Watch which defensive option is used before forcing the swap; keep using covered damage when no reliable catch exists.
