How to play Ivy

The full version of the quick answer.

Your goal

Help a useful teammate keep fighting while contributing your own damage. Your exact balance of shooting, spell damage and protection depends on your build, but you should remain an active participant.

Positioning

Play beside or just behind the ally you are helping, close enough for Kudzu Connection and with a clear line between you. Use cover and movement to change angles. Avoid standing so far behind that your gun and area pressure never affect the fight.

How to fight

  1. Place Entangling Thorns where enemies must approach, retreat or stand to fight your teammate. Shoot a reachable target while your partner attacks. Keep Stone Form for a meaningful enemy commitment rather than using it for a little extra damage before an attacker rushes you.
  2. Kudzu Connection helps a coordinated exchange; do not drift out of useful range while expecting it to keep working. Air Drop can start a fight or move an ally, but agree on the destination and timing first. Transporting someone away from a useful attack can hurt your team.

When an enemy threatens you

Use Stone Form and movement to survive the dangerous moment, then return towards allied help. If your build is damage-focused, keep collecting income instead of assuming a support label means you should stop farming.

Ivy game plan

Timings are approximate. When teams start grouping and pushing objectives, use the next phase’s advice.

Early game

~0–10 min

Collect souls beside your partner and use Thorns for useful pressure. Preserve Stone Form for a serious enemy commitment rather than minor extra damage.

Mid game

~10–25 min

Keep collecting income for your build while supporting a useful ally. Coordinate Air Drop before trying to move someone into or away from a fight.

Late game

~25+ min

Add your build’s damage and protect nearby allies. Choose transport and control that improve the current fight instead of moving teammates unexpectedly.

Tips

Good to know

  • Stone Form can be cast while you're busy with other actions — fire it mid-fight without pausing.
  • Kudzu healing is shared both ways, so tether a tanky ally to keep yourself sustained.
  • Self-cast Air Drop turns you into the explosion — land directly on grouped enemies for maximum impact.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Using Stone Form for minor damage before a dangerous attack.
  • Transporting an ally without agreeing where they should go.

If you’re struggling

Clear safe waves and contribute protection; keep collecting souls if your chosen build needs gun damage.

One useful tip

Do not pick up a teammate for Air Drop without agreeing on the destination and timing.

AbramsThreat · Lane
Watch for

A close wall catch can force you to spend defence before a second threat arrives.

Do this

Preserve Stone Form for the dangerous commitment and fight beside your partner with an exit from his wall angle.

HazeOpportunity · Teamfights
Watch for

Her focused damage can become dangerous when your teammate is left alone.

Do this

Stay close enough to protect the targeted ally and add disruption rather than leaving to chase a different enemy.

VindictaThreat · Lane
Watch for

Long sightlines punish stepping away from cover to maintain a partner exchange.

Do this

Choose cover your partner can also use and change the shared angle instead of both standing in her open firing line.
